BRIGHTON, Mich. – Lansing Ignite FC held its first open tryout of the year at the Legacy Center in Brighton, Michigan, on Sunday night, with nearly 50 players taking part in the action.
Head Coach Nate Miller and assistant coaches Joel DeLass, Tim Daniels and Wail Zenga were in attendance to evaluate the players as they competed in small-sided games and full-field matches.
"To play, I think, at the USL League One level - I think it's going to be a really great league - and so we're looking for exceptional talents, exceptional men who have a certain type of mentality," Miller said following the tryout. "We really appreciate the guys taking the time and the extreme effort to come.
"We're very open to taking a look at all different guys with different backgrounds. I think everyone's journey is different, so it was good for a couple of hours here to take a look at that."
Due to significant demand, LIFC will host a second tryout for the 2019 inaugural season roster at the Legacy Center on Feb. 10, beginning at 10 p.m. and lasting two hours.
LIFC has signed a total of 12 players ahead of the upcoming League One season, including Xavier Gomez, Rafa Mentzingen, Christian Silva, Kyle Carr, Nathan Lewis, Steeve Saint-Duc, Kyle Ihn, Rhys Williams, Kevin Coiffic, Omar Castro, Brandon Fricke and Pato Botello Faz. Additional player signings are set to be revealed in the coming weeks.
LIFC players will report to Lansing for preseason training in mid-February. Lansing begins its League One campaign against the Richmond Kickers in Richmond, Virginia, on March 30, while LIFC is set to host its home opener against the Kickers at 7 p.m. ET on April 13.
