STATESBORO, Ga. – Lansing Ignite FC had an opportunity to walk away with all three points at Erk Russell Park on Saturday, but in the end, LIFC and South Georgia Tormenta FC finished in a 1-1 draw.
Rafa Mentzingen scored Lansing's only goal of the match in the 12th minute of action, finishing with his right foot after a beautiful ball was sent into the box by Nick Moon from the right wing.
LIFC looked to be the better side for a majority of the match, putting multiple shots on goal and hitting the crossbar twice with great attempts. Tormenta FC, however, made the most of its one shot on goal, as Shinya Kadono scored in the 88th minute to level the score.
Despite conceding late, Elma Nfor was taken down in the box in stoppage time and had an opportunity to hand Lansing the victory with potentially the last kick of the match. However, his attempt from the penalty spot was denied by South Georgia's Pablo Jara.
The result sees Lansing earn it's 27th point of the regular season and move to 6-5-9. With the playoff race heating up, LIFC has not lost in its last five matches and is undefeated in the month of July.
RAFA MENTZINGEN: The attacker scored Lansing's only goal of the match, completed 90.9 percent of his passes and recorded one tackle and one interception on defense.
