STATESBORO, Ga. – Stefan Cleveland, who celebrated his 25th birthday on Saturday, turned in a fantastic performance in goal to lead Lansing Ignite FC to its first clean sheet of the 2019 USL League One regular season, a 0-0 tie against South Georgia Tormenta FC at Erk Russell Park.
The goalkeeper made three important saves throughout the match and was smart in his decision-making when coming off of the goal line to thwart attacking chances for Tormenta FC.
South Georgia avoided a penalty decision in the 14th minute, as Tumi Moshobane nutmegged a South Georgia defender and was taken down in the box. The referee made no call, however, and play continued.
Rhys Williams made strong surges forward throughout the match and created some great opportunities. One of his best crosses into the box came in the 33rd minute, but the ball was cleared away before reaching a wide-open Ricky Lopez-Espin waiting in the center.
With the result, Lansing is now 2-3-4 in league play and unbeaten in four consecutive League One matches. The team will return to Michigan to train before heading to Wisconsin to face off against Forward Madison FC on Saturday, June 1.
STEFAN CLEVELAND: The netminder made three key saves, one punch, two clearances and completed 25 passes with a 92 percent passing accuracy.
