RICHMOND, Va. – History was made at City Stadium in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday evening, as Lansing Ignite FC celebrated its first victory in club history with a 3-2 result against the Richmond Kickers.
Tumi Moshobane scored the team's first goal in history in the 19th minute, with Selso Saint-Duc providing the assist. Xavier Gomez scored the second eight minutes later, and he also provided the assist on the third goal of the night, which was headed in from close range by Kevin Coiffic early in the second half.
Maxi Rodriguez scored in the 68th minute to start a comeback for the home side, and Richmond was awarded a penalty minutes later, which was converted by Joe Gallardo. However, LIFC held on for all three points.
With the result, LIFC improves to 1-0-0 this season and will head home to train before its second match league match against Greenville Triumph SC on April 6.
XAVIER GOMEZ: The midfielder has earned LIFC Man of the Match honors after receiving 49 percent of the fan vote on Twitter. Gomez recorded one goal and one assist, as well as completed 80.6 percent of his passes, to help Ignite FC claim its first win.
